Management Team



As Chairman, Jim is credited with growing the Spectrum companies from a start-up venture with three people to a regional group of companies with a very talented and experienced senior management team. Jim has helped Spectrum establish a reputation for quality in both speculative and build-to-suit projects. He has supervised the completion of dozens of development projects, from bulk warehouse and multifamily rental to Class A office and high rise condominiums. He holds a B.A. degree in Economics from Davidson College, is a graduate of The Management Course for Presidents and a graduate of courses in Total Quality and Excellence in Speaking. Jim is a member of ULI and serves on the Board of Directors of Center City Partners and the Entrepreneurial Council at Queens College. He has been an active volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, with the AROSA House—a non-profit children’s foster home–and with the Uptown Men’s Shelter. He recently co-founded the Family Legacy Foundation. 


Chief Executive Officer

As CEO, Darryl has a diverse set of responsibilities. He provides leadership within each of the companies to develop strategic plans and goals, and he interfaces with each entity’s president to ensure progress is being made and goals achieved. He is responsible for developing and growing both equity and debt relationships and leads the firm’s efforts in structuring project debt and equity placements for both new developments and acquisitions. Darryl leads teams on new office and multifamily development projects from conception through design and on to delivery. Darryl graduated with honors from the University of Georgia’s honors program with a BBA degree in Finance. He has completed the American Management Association’s President’s Course, and has achieved his Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) designation. As a volunteer, Darryl has been actively involved with Habitat for Humanity, the Arts and Science Council, and the Uptown Men’s Shelter. He serves as a board member for the Family Legacy Foundation, a non-profit group developing sustainable solutions for poverty, as well as for the Center for Real Estate with the Belk College of Business at UNC Charlotte. 

John Boylan, President, Spectrum Properties CarolinasJOHN M. BOYLAN

President, Spectrum | Carolinas

John is the President of Spectrum | Carolinas and plays a lead role in the company’s operations, directly responsible for the leasing and management functions of the company. John also provides expertise in acquiring new business and identifying new development opportunities. John led the local development team in the development and construction of the Colonnade, a 125,000 square foot Class A office building and its Infrastructure, and played the same role with such other projects as Alexander Square, a 750 space parking deck and retail facility. A graduate of East Tennessee State University, John holds a BBA degree in Marketing and is a Certified Commercial Investment Member candidate. He serves on the Board of Advisors of Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce, the Board of Directors for the Downtown Raleigh Alliance which he chairs, and the Board of Advisors for the East Tennessee State University School of Business and Technology.


President, Spectrum | Emery

Pat is responsible for all of our commercial operations in the Nashville area (development, acquisitions, leasing, and management), as well as any surrounding cities. Prior to joining Spectrum, Pat developed, constructed, leased, managed and sold ten office buildings totaling over 1.5 million square feet of speculative Class A suburban office space in Cool Springs – Franklin, TN, along with four speculative warehouse buildings totaling over 1.2 million square feet in LaVergne, TN. Our Nashville portfolio now includes 8 of these office buildings and two of the warehouse buildings. Pat attended the University of Oklahoma, majoring in Business Administration. He is a member of ULI, the Transportation Management Association, a graduate of Leadership Nashville and Leadership Franklin. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Avenue Bank. In addition to his business accomplishments, Pat serves as the Co-Chair of Cumberland Region Tomorrow. He has also served as a board member of the Crescendo, an assisted living facility for retired musicians.

Stephen M. McClure

President, Spectrum | Residential

Steve is the President of Spectrum | Residential, Inc. and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of this entity. The company specializes in the development and management of multi-family properties, including apartments, student housing, and condominiums. He currently has 774 apartment units under construction in the Southeast, and he recently sold two deals for a combined value of approximately $86 million. He was the lead developer of Center City Green, a 500,000 SF, 12-story, mixed-use development completed in 2009 and played a lead role in the redevelopment of the 230 South Tryon office building into upscale condominiums, including heading up the development of the adjacent stand-alone Ruth’s Chris restaurant. Steve received his undergraduate degree in economics from Wake Forest University and his MBA from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. In 2013, Steve was appointed by the Governor of North Carolina to serve as a public member on the North Carolina Board of Architecture.  He is also an active member of NMHC, Urban Land Institute, and the U.S. Green Building Council.


Chief Financial Officer

Brent is the CFO of Spectrum Properties, responsible for financial reporting, accounting and project financing for owned and managed projects of Spectrum and its affiliates. He is an active participant in the design of each new project’s reporting and project development cost processes, which we tailor to meet each client’s individual needs. Before joining Spectrum, Brent was previously employed as a division controller for three years by AAC Real Services, located in Charlotte, NC. Prior to that, he was a Regional Accountant with ClubCorp for four years in Dallas, TX. Brent is a graduate of North Carolina State University, where he earned his in Accounting, and is a Certified Public Accountant. He is an active participant in several community groups, notably as the Chairman of the Stewardship and Finance Committee at Lake Norman Baptist Church, a youth soccer coach with the North Mecklenburg Soccer Team, and a youth football coach with the Northlake Optimist Club.


President, Spectrum Contract Services

Terry is the President of Spectrum Contract Services. He specializes in technical areas of the industry and is responsible for directing the activities of our maintenance professionals at all properties and has the overall responsibility for the planning and operations of SpectrumContract Services, the service arm of Spectrum Properties. Terry also provides technical expertise at the property level, via capital improvement recommendations, that regularly result insubstantial paybacks to the owners and/or lower operating costs at Spectrum-managed properties. He has effectively led or participated in the start-up teams for over 27 new projects. Actively involved in all phases of supervision and management, he was instrumental in formulating and implementing computer programs for reporting energy consumption, preventive maintenance and cost expenditures. Terry graduated from Charlotte’s Central Piedmont Community College with an Associate Science degree in HVAC. He also holds a North Carolina General Contractor’s license, as well as H-2 and H-3 mechanical licenses.
